As the only marketer on the BigCommerce engineering team, Grace Estle considers herself a unicorn.

In her current role as a Senior Brand Manager, she’s creating an employer brand for our engineering team in an effort to attract and retain talent.

BIGTeam Spotlight: Grace Estle

How did Estle’s years of brand marketing experience land her in this role? Read on to find out.

How did you get into the ecommerce industry?

Grace Estle: “I spent the majority of my marketing career in more traditional industries like media, telecommunications and manufacturing. However, my passion is for technology.

“My previous employer, Zip Co. (a buy now, pay later service), enlisted my expertise to help them rebrand their Australian and American companies into one unified brand. This position revealed a new path for me, and I am grateful to now be part of the BigCommerce team.”

What makes BigCommerce a great place to work?

GE: “To put it simply, our culture is the reason we all thrive together. My role is unique, and I must be able to partner with teammates across other functions in order to be successful. Everyone I have encountered is incredibly welcoming and supportive.

“Additionally, we are fully committed to diversity and inclusion with employee resource groups, dedicated events and an amazing network of teammates who live and breathe this philosophy.”

“This is the only time in my 22-year career that my personal and professional beliefs have fully aligned.”

What’s the most fulfilling aspect of your role?

GE: “Since I am focused on attracting talent, my marketing goals are centered around developing a brand that connects with our team and potential candidates on a very meaningful level. I enjoy building relationships both internally and externally, and this role has allowed me to do this.”

What are your passions outside of work?

GE: “I am an artist, so I flex my creative side in a lot of ways. I’m a singer, childrens’ picture book author, cook and sugar cookie decorator. Recently, I switched to a new canvas and started flipping outdated furniture into more modern pieces.”

What do you shop for most online?

GE: “Lately, I have been buying a lot of tools for my furniture flipping venture. However, I love finding the best deals for tech gadgets.”

What do you find most fascinating about ecommerce?

GE: “I enjoy seeing how companies push themselves to create the best shopping experience possible for their customers. These enhancements can include anything from app updates to real-time notifications on when a product will arrive. This landscape changes frequently, and I am always amazed at new technologies that make shopping online even more convenient.”

“I enjoy building relationships both internally and externally, and this role has allowed me to do this.”

Where do you see the future of ecommerce?

GE: “I anticipate a series of technological advancements that will make ecommerce the most efficient and convenient method available.

“For example, I predict that drones will begin delivering many of my packages, shortening delivery times to hours versus days. I also imagine that we will have even more payment options available as cryptocurrencies continue to gain more traction.”
