In this video I share six ideas to wow customers after buying. As a business on a budget, you really need to do whatever you can to turn one-time customers into lifetime customers who will tell everyone they know about you, and these six tactics will help you do exactly that.

Even if you only implement one of them, your repeat customer count will grow significantly. The six ideas are:

  1. Call them on the phone and thank them
  2. Upgrade their shipping to express/overnight for free
  3. Include something free (such as a product sample) with their order
  4. Include a hand-written thank you note with their order
  5. Include a 5-20% coupon code on their printed invoice to use for their next order
  6. Refund their shipping cost as store credit to encourage a second order

Try BigCommerce free for 15 days and see why it's loved by over 10,000 successful businesses.

I really like number 5, including a coupon code in the order. How would we do this in BigCommerce?

    1. Create a coupon code. 2. Print a coupon (standard coupon size)showing the code and a message that it is an exclusive offer asking your customer to enter the code at the time of next purchase. 3. Restrict the coupon to one time use with an expiry date. 4. Attach it to the invoice copy and send.

We use a company called Vistaprint here in the UK to put together a postcard with a discount code on. 1 of which is dropped into every order, especially orders from Amazon and Ebay to help push them to our main site.

Head to the Marketing tab on your BigCommerce control panel, view coupon codes, and finally create your code (or use the generated code). You can include this code into a hand written letter (#4 on list) and complete two tasks at once! Good luck

These are great ideas but apart from no.4 which is a nice touch, they don’t really work for a business which doesn’t expect to get many repeat orders. We sell wedding favours and most people only plan on getting married once :) Sometimes we get orders for Christening or Anniversary favours but we really just get recommendations.
