Mitch (@mitchellharper) is the co-founder and CEO of BigCommerce. Way back in 2007 he built what eventually became BigCommerce as you know it. Today he runs the company alongside Eddie and along with our 100+ team members, is passionate about helping businesses succeed with e-commerce. Mitch spends time between our Sydney and Austin offices and is giving the keynote at TechConnect 2012 in Sydney on April 19th.

In this video I discuss how the way you communicate with employees, customers, partners, suppliers and investors is a direct reflection of the business your business is (or is not) having.

Typically those businesses who are lead by excellent communicators out do their competitors and enjoy more customers, more brand awareness and more success because everyone understands what their goals are and the company as a whole (including its customers) is dedicated to one single goal that everyone is determined to (and rewarded to) accomplish.

Try BigCommerce free for 15 days and see why it's loved by over 10,000 successful businesses.

Mitch. Very interesting post. On the topic of communication, I think a lot of us would agree that a “communication” update on the status of releases would be great, IE v6 and so on.

I also believe communication is a key to the success of ones business, but that goes for both internal and external communication, perhaps this would fall under your category of “customer satisfaction”

Hi Dave. We keep customers updated via Facebook (numerous times a week) and the blog (the entire v6 roadmap was posted the day it was finalized and just recently we posted a video showing the new iPhone features and new store designs) so not sure what else we can do. Happy to hear suggestions though.

    Mitch, good advice…

Can you please implement it with bigcommerce.

For example in the upcoming update on Sunday, please have an updated page with the status of the update and with known issues and resolved status and eta.

In the most recent security update 2-3 weeks ago our site with bigcommerce was down for about 16 hours, during a critical ad campaign, and being it was Sunday, no one to talk to and no sufficient response from bigcommerce.

Hi Abraham. We send email notices at least 48 hours before any scheduled maintenance. They clearly indicate estimated down time, what the maintenance involves, etc. If you’re not receiving them please check your junk mail.

We’re looking at implementing a live status page as well however we’re extremely focused on version 6 for the next few weeks. Thanks for understanding.

Thans Debbie! My hair has already grown back believe it or not. I need it for the cold Sydney winter we’re currently having :)
