As we grew, our shipping volume also increased while our shipping costs decreased. After a while we decided it would be a great business to get into the shipping business and help online retailers by sharing our knowledge. We have been helping out ecommerce players of all sizes for the past 4 years through our company http://www.shipstandard.com

Sounds like you’ve followed the Tim Ferris idea of opening up shop in a niche you’d spent a bunch of money in — and doing it better :) Great advice here!

It’s an amazing article. Yes there is too much to consider to decide whether your business should work with 3PLs or not. When I was selling online ( until Amazon jumped into my field and lowered the profits incredibly ) , I always thought if I should go with one of those 3PL companies such as shipwire red flag, fufillment etc. But I not only found them expensive, i also considered the fact that i can’t handle my returns and decide whether items are resellable or if I should dispose them. This was my number one reason that I decided to handle my shipping. Secondly, there was enough opportunity for me to lower my shipping cost ,even with my small volume. I was actually shipping the same product cheaper than those big companies because I was able to customize my packaging.
To make a long story short, I came up with a new idea to open a ” customized 3PL ” I accept a limited number of customers in order to provide a fully customized service for their needs and also to keep a higher level of service.
My suggestion is for those selling under 10 per day is to keep shipping on their own but after 20 orders per day they should start to consider outsourcing their logistics. This will free up their time to focus on marketing and sourcing new products and they will actually save money if they can find the right company for their needs.

Thanks & Regards,

There a lot of things you can cut using the 3PL but there must be price consideration first. Thanks for sharing this post. For more info on logistics, visit us at: https://excelsior.ph/
