The Chickidee success story

Joe Chandler always had a passion for interior design. He appreciated well-designed interiors;  however, most of these beautiful interiors he admired required a small fortune to recreate. Despite his ongoing search, Joe struggled to find a brand that offered high-quality decor at affordable price points, so in 2010, Chickidee, based in England, was born with the intent to deliver well-designed home interior products available to everyone. 

Today, Chickidee Homeware is an established, independent purveyor of home interior products with retail locations located in the sprawling iconic southeastern towns of Wimbledon and Crawley.


Moving Beyond Magento

Our previous site ran on Magento, which required a skilled developer to get changes made. It was also costly for us to manage and keep updated. Ultimately, this led to slow turnaround times, outdated functionality and lost opportunities to improve the website.

When we began evaluating alternative platforms, we knew we wanted a platform that was optimized for SEO, as well as conversion, while providing us the ability to personalize the website and tailor the experience for both our wholesale and retail customers.

We chose BigCommerce because it was immediately clear the platform would help us reduce development costs and enable us to make changes quickly. We also loved that the BigCommerce control panel was really user-friendly and easy to use, which has allowed us to significantly reduce the turnaround time for launching new promotions or making updates to the website.

Creating the best customer experience with ecommerce agency 5874

When we first met 5874, a full-service ecommerce agency that has done extensive work with BigCommerce, we were having major problems at the time with Magento. After deciding to migrate, we contracted 5874 to help us with the migration. We also saw an opportunity to create distinct site experiences tailored to our consumer and wholesale customers. This was not possible for us previously without incurring significant costs, and with BigCommerce creating multiple stores is incredibly simple.

Increased revenue and SEO improvements with BigCommerce

Since re-platforming to BigCommerce, we’ve experienced a revenue increase of 21% MoM with the same amount of marketing, so it truly is a testament to our new website. The speed of our website improved as well as our SEO. BigCommerce allows you to edit metadata with no custom coding, which is huge. The platform also makes simple, but important, changes such as performing URL redirects when a category URL is changed.    

Six months after migrating to BigCommerce, we’ve experienced a 7% increase in organic traffic, which is currently our largest source of revenue. Customers are also spending more time on site due to the improved design, usability, and our ability to customize the shopping experience for different customer segments.
