BigSummit this year was all about one big theme: bringing our brands together under the new Commerce identity. You probably heard Travis and Michelle talk about it at a high level. But here’s what it really means for you as a small business.

At its core, Commerce is about combining the best of what we’ve built — BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift — into a single, more powerful ecosystem. Instead of using separate tools that only solve pieces of the puzzle, we’re building experiences that work together.

As a small business, you don’t care about incremental updates in isolation. You care about one seamless experience that fits your needs. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for.

Product launches announced at BigSummit 2025

We shared several product updates that are either here today or coming soon. And a few that are further out — but show where we’re headed.

Feedonomics Surface (open beta).

The biggest launch for small businesses is Feedonomics Surface. Think of it as a new feed management solution built for you. There’s even a free version that already outperforms our old native integrations.

Here’s what you get:

  • The ability to list up to 100,000 products on Google or Meta (way more than before).

  • Basic optimization tools to clean up feeds and fix errors.

  • Professional-grade features at a discounted rate if you need more.

Surface is in open beta now with Google and Meta, with Microsoft Bing coming shortly after. Over time, we’ll expand into ad channels and eventually marketplaces. And when AI comes into play, it’ll make feeds even smarter — filling in missing product details so you can list in complex places like Amazon without all the manual work.

Makeswift on Stencil (coming in 2026).

Another big one: we’re bringing Makeswift, our visual storefront editor, to Stencil. If you’ve ever felt limited by Page Builder, you’ll notice the difference right away. Makeswift is more intuitive, more flexible, and frankly just more fun to use.

You’ll be able to edit themes faster, add components from apps, and build out pages without feeling boxed in. And in the future, Makeswift will include AI tools — meaning you can ask it to build or update a page in simple language, and it’ll do the work for you.

Backorders (coming in 2026).

We’re also adding something many of you have been asking for: basic backorders. Until now, BigCommerce hasn’t supported overselling or negative inventory. This first release is simple — it lets you oversell without turning off inventory tracking — but it’s a big step.

It’s already in beta, and you can expect it in the first half of 2026. Long term, we’ll add more advanced options for managing partial backorders, fulfillment rules, and customer-facing display.

Looking ahead at AI tools.

The further-out roadmap is where things get really exciting:

  • Makeswift AI will let you spin up sites or landing pages using natural language prompts.

  • Feedonomics AI will unlock more complex sales channels by auto-generating the data they require.

These are big unlocks for small businesses, because they’ll let you save time and reach more customers without extra headcount.

Conversations among small business owners

Outside of the product announcements, some of the most valuable moments at BigSummit were the conversations with small business owners. And one topic kept coming up: AI readiness.

Business owners are asking:

  • How are my products found in this new world of AI-powered search?

  • Is my website easy for an AI to read, understand, or even complete a checkout on?

  • Am I comfortable handing off operational tasks to AI? If not, why not?

For some businesses, handing off tasks to AI feels like a huge efficiency win. For others, especially in industries with compliance requirements, it feels risky. Selling t-shirts? You might be fine letting AI manage customer service. Selling regulated products? You’ll need to be more cautious.

The point isn’t that there’s one right answer. It’s that every business needs to start asking these questions now. AI is changing how customers shop and how you operate. The earlier you prepare, the better positioned you’ll be.

Final word

For small businesses, the message from BigSummit is clear: Commerce is bringing the best of our tools together to give you one seamless experience.

Better feed management. Easier storefront editing. More flexibility with backorders. And a roadmap that helps you prepare for the AI-driven future.

It all comes back to this: less time spent on operational headaches, and more time focused on growing your business.
