Inspired by Swiss mid-century design, this theme is all about clean white space, bold and highly legible fonts, and high-contrast colours. It all combines to create a design that’s intended not to detract from the focus of your store — selling products.

Why München? Well, I’m glad you asked. Two reasons:

1. Münchenstein, a small town tucked away in the Swiss Alps, is the birthplace of one of the most universally applied and aesthetically pleasing fonts designed in modern times — Helvetica. It’s so awesome that it’s been rated number one on FontShop Germany’s list, “Best Fonts of All Time” and there’s even a documentary about it (aptly named “Helvetica”). Every font in the theme — including the logo, headings and body copy — is Helvetica Neue, a later reworking that improved legibility and made it translate especially well to digital media. We abbreviated the name Münchenstein to be a little easier on the eye.

2. Umlauts are über cool.

Big shoutout to Das Monk for providing the product images used in this post!

    Hi David,

I have installed your theme on my site and had a few questions, what’s the best way to contact you?

  • I like this theme, but don’t like how the reviews are hidden. Is it possible to make the reviews visible without having to click to expand these?

Hi Annette, go to Store Setup & Tools–> Store Settings –> Images tab. Check to see what size the images are. Change the featured image thumbnail size to 195X195.

I’m using Munchen and my product images don’t resize to the size listed within the settings. All the product thumbnail photos are showing up different sizes within the pages.

  • Love the template but on the slider the header cannot be edited for color…..having to go back into the code to fix will be a pain in the neck!

    Hi Norm,

We would encourage you to sign up for a trial account. Then, use that as a “testing” area to tweak your new design before transferring it to your store.

  • Is there a way to try a new theme on an existing website without making it go live? I would like to “test” some of the new themes with my existing site but don’t want the tests to actually be seen.
