As ecommerce entrepreneurs, the holiday shopping season means we’re torn between two worlds: spending more time with family and friends or watching the sales roll in. For me, the compromise is found in automations, apps and integrations that allow me to step away from the keyboard and pick up some eggnog. To make sure you #SellSmart this holiday season without sacrificing social time, here are a few tips that will maximize your ability to work on-the-go, even during the busiest shopping season of the year.
1. Make your backend mobile
The Bigcommerce app can solve a lot of your on-the-go ecommerce needs. From the dashboard view, you can see your store insights on a weekly and monthly basis. You also can tell right off the bat what your workload will be based on how many orders you have to fulfill and ship.
Product manipulation on-the-fly is also easy in the Bigcommerce app. You can change item names, descriptions and even change prices. You can pull important information like quantity on hand and lifetime revenue of the item. And if you’re fully embracing mobile, you can add order notes and ship items right from the palm of your hand.
2. Put your payment gateway in your pocket
Most major payment gateways have a native mobile app as well. By enabling push notifications, you can see payments as they’re being made. Curious to see how much money your sale has brought in so far? Apps will typically tell you what your current balance is or how much your next deposit will be for. You can even get creative with your customer retention and thank people for large purchases in a few taps of the finger.
3. Get automated notifications
If you’re looking for something a little more lightweight—or you don’t have a smartphone—you can set up triggers with Zapier. Like IFTTT for business, Zapier is an app connector and automator. For example, you could set up a Zap that sends you a text message or email for every new sale via a connection with Bigcommerce, PayPal or Stripe. It’s up to you how and when you want to receive the notifications.
4. Keep an eye on your traffic trends
Looking to discreetly peak at your web traffic from the dinner table? Download the Yahoo Live Web Insights app. You can keep track of your real-time traffic and daily page views as well as customer data, like how much time they’ve spent on your site and which products they’ve viewed.
5. Enjoy it!
It’s really easy to obsess over your metrics during the holiday rush. With so many analytics and insights to interpret, your friends and family can easily get lost in the shuffle. But trust me, your store will continue to exist and sales will continue to come in whether or not you’re staring at a screen. Think of how great it will be to return to your control panel after a few hours to see a bunch of sales waiting for you!
If there’s one universal truth about the holiday season, it’s that time is precious. #SellSmart by putting these ideas into action over the next couple weeks and you’ll keep your operation running smooth this holiday season—even when your focus is elsewhere.
