First off, let me extend a huge thanks to everyone who has submitted feedback on our new look control panel and new theme with the carousel builder. The positive feedback has been overwhelming to say the least, and we are loving the sites you’re building on the new theme.

Some of you have also uncovered a few issues and inconsistencies, which we’re working hard to fix. Of course, our highest priority is to provide a stable platform, especially during the holidays when visitors and transactions are at yearly highs. So that there’s no danger of creating instability, we won’t be upgrading any additional servers with the new look and themes until the new year. We can hear your sighs of disappointment. Trust me — we feel the same. And even though we’re eager to get the release out to all of you, we don’t want to risk your holiday sales.

We know a lot of you are eager to get access to the new look and theme, so during the holiday embargo period (now until early January) we are offering a limited opportunity to apply to our Early Release Program. If your application is accepted, we will upgrade your store, which will give you access to the new look control panel and new theme.

Keep in mind that there are still a few wrinkles being ironed out in the Early Release version. If you’re accepted, you can expect to see some changes as we resolve those issues. We’d love to get your feedback, so we’ve made it easy by providing a New Look Feedback button on the right side of every page. Lastly, during the period of the Opt In program, you’ll have the option to return to the old look by clicking the Back to Old Look link at the top right corner in control panel. If you’re interesting in participating, you can apply to the Early Release Program.

Please verify the BigCommerce model before buying the gold or platinum plan because Sales will not tell you about what problems you will run into. I recently bought BigCommerce Gold Plan and now struggling with uploading products through a CSV. I am running into continuous problems with their technology and support desk:
    ——————–
    (1) Uploaded products through Image Manager and Cyberduck
    (2) Used one of the templates to upload sample 29 products to see how the data would look
    (3) Product upload dos not work – only 10 products show up in front and back end while the import message says all products were imported successfully
    (4) No matter what image path I use (as suggested in their instructions), image do not display
    (5) I Have contacted chat 15 times, talked to Support 10 times and e-mailed requests 7 to 8 times in the last 4 days
    (6) I get a new answer every time which have been incomplete, untested and poor at best

    ——————–
If you are frustrated with the complexity and errors in Magento, beware……… BigCommerce is no better place.

  • Hi do you have a new launch date? Eagerly awaiting the new look!

  • Thanks to share this all information here, i like your blog….

  • I have to tell you this whole new release has been handled very poorly. To have been told now for months we would be upgraded and that comes directly not only from these newsletters but from CS reps as well and then now an embargo til Jan? I understand the stability issues but you should have decided this months ago so your customers would not be disappointed. Not your finest moment BC.

  • There is no way to put your email in the Early Release Program form you guys have created. We have been waiting since October for the new themes to be released.

  • Hi Mitch,
We would like to apply for early release program. Thanks,
    Regards,
    Ben

  • HI,
I’ve applied, but not heard anything in regards to whether I’ve been “accepted” (absurd) or not.

I know I’m not the only one looking at my options at this point in regards to ecommerce sites.

Can you please let me know when/if this is going to happend and I’ll be switched over?

    Thanks,

    Nicola

I find the Early Release Program pointless. Like any program update, people should be able to opt-out or opt-in at their own will to the new control panel design, until you decide to put launch the final design completely. If they then find it too overwhelming, they can go back to the old one.

What is the purpose of this application process and what criteria is it based on someone “being accepted”?

  • Enormously disappointing news.

  • Thanks for the update, I was beginning to think I was the ugly stepchild that was being ignored. I’m disappointed I won’t be able to try it out until next year, but I’m not a programmer or anything like that and if it blew up, I’d be lost.
