BigCommerce Plan & Pricing Updates

What's changing, why it matters, and what to expect for your account.

Starting June 1, 2026, BigCommerce is updating its plan structure and pricing.

We're sharing everything now, 60 days ahead of the change, so you have time to understand what's shifting, what it means for your business, and what your options are.

Some of you won't see much change. Others will see a different plan, a different price, or a new fee. We'll walk through all of it below.

The changes, in plain terms.

Most core product functionality isn't changing. What is:

  • Plans are getting new names and updated GMV thresholds.
  • A fee is being added for orders processed through Open Payment Providers on self-serve plans. More information on this fee and Open Payment Providers below.
  • And for the first time, you can manage your plan yourself, directly from your account.

¹ Pricing for Core and Growth is unchanged from Standard and Plus.

² Scale base pricing is unchanged from Pro. However, the overage model has changed —

Scale uses a continuous 0.9% rate on GMV above $33,333/month, replacing the Pro plan's fixed per-block charges. See "How does the Scale plan overage model work?" below.

Open Payment Provider Fee: An Open Payment Provider Fee applies to all self-service plans. Rates vary by plan tier. This fee does not apply to Performance (formerly called Enterprise) operating under contracted terms. Learn more about this fee here.

What this means for you.

Your experience depends on three things:

  1. Your trailing 12-month Inclusive GMV — whether you're above or below new plan thresholds
  2. Which features you require today — some capabilities are only available on higher-tier plans
  3. Your payment provider setup — whether your orders are processed through Embedded Payment Providers or Open Payment Providers (see list below for more details)

You may see: no change (a rename only), a plan change, a price change, or a new fee — or some combination.

What you can do right now.

Review your plan and GMV. Check your current Inclusive GMV in your account dashboard to understand where your business falls under the new thresholds.

Review your payment provider setup. Confirm how your orders are being processed and check whether those providers are on the Embedded Payment Provider list.

Contracted Enterprise customers: Your stores won't be impacted by this change — other than the plan being renamed to Performance. If you also have stores on self-service retail plans (Standard, Plus, or Pro), those stores are subject to the migration above. Contact your account team with questions.

  • Monthly plans: Your plan changes on your next billing cycle after the 60-day notice period — so after June 1.
  • Annual plans: Your plan changes at the end of your current annual service period.
  • If you upgrade or downgrade during the notice period: Your plan changes at the applicable timing above.

If your GMV has grown beyond your current plan's threshold, you'll be moved up. That usually means a higher price, and we want to be direct about that.

The plan you're moving to is built for businesses at your scale. Higher tiers include lower Open Payment Provider Fee rates and features designed for your volume. And you're not locked in: you can review your options and change your plan yourself at any time.

If you're on a monthly plan, switching to annual billing locks in your pricing for 12 months and reduces your monthly rate.

Yes. We’ve added this as a new option. Starting June 1, you'll be able to manage your plan directly from your account. See the Managing your plan section below for instructions.

One limitation: Downgrades are still subject to GMV thresholds. If your trailing 12-month Inclusive GMV exceeds a lower plan's threshold, that plan won't appear as an available option. This is an eligibility limit, not a lock-in.

Performance (formerly called Enterprise) customers: Plan changes must go through your account team. Contact your account team for assistance.

Open Payment Provider Fee

Starting June 1, BigCommerce charges a monthly fee for orders processed through Open Payment Providers on self-service plans. It is:

  • A fee charged by BigCommerce to you, billed monthly on your invoice
  • Not charged to your shoppers — this fee must not be passed through to shoppers at checkout
  • Separate from any fees your payment provider charges you

Many payment network rules and local laws restrict surcharges on end-user transactions. You are responsible for your own compliance with those requirements.

Fees are billed monthly in arrears as a distinct line item on your invoice. Performance plans operating under contracted terms are not subject to this fee. Contact your account team for details.

The fee is determined at the order level — each order is attributed to the payment provider that processed it.

If that provider is an Embedded Payment Provider, that order's GMV is not subject to the fee. If that provider is an Open Payment Provider, that order's GMV is subject to the fee. Merchants using a mix of providers will see a mix of fee-exposed and fee-free GMV on their invoice.

Important: Offering an Embedded Payment Provider as a checkout option does not make those orders fee-free if that provider is not actually processing the transaction.

Example: Your store offers PayPal Wallet as a checkout option as well as credit cards with NMI, which is an Open Provider. A shopper pays with a credit card via NMI. Because the order was processed by NMI, an Open Provider — it is subject to the fee. If the shopper had selected PayPal Wallet there would be no fee as PayPal is an Embedded Payment Provider.

Route more of your orders through Embedded Payment Providers. The fee applies only to GMV attributed to Open Payment Providers at the order level — if all your orders are processed by Embedded Payment Providers, the fee is zero.

View the current Embedded Payment Provider list →

Note: This list reflects our current Embedded Payment Provider program and may change over time. Any updates apply to future orders only — they won't affect charges already billed.

The fee is based on your Open Payment Provider GMV:

Open Payment Provider GMV = Inclusive GMV (after 10% reduction) − GMV attributed to Embedded Payment Providers at the order level

Open Payment Provider GMV is never negative. If all your GMV is processed through Embedded Payment Providers, no fee applies. Fees are calculated on the prior calendar month and billed monthly, regardless of whether your subscription bills monthly or annually.

Yes. Orders processed outside the BigCommerce platform are subject to the fee. This includes orders placed through manual or offline payment methods, such as purchase orders.

Starting with your first invoice after June 1, you may see a line item labeled "Open Payment Provider Fee."

  • If it appears: Your storefront processed orders through Open Payment Providers during the prior month. The amount is your plan's fee rate applied to your Open Payment Provider GMV for that period.
  • If it doesn't appear: All orders during the period were processed through Embedded Payment Providers, or your Open Payment Provider GMV was zero. No action is needed.
  • If the amount is higher than you expected: The most common cause is that some or all of your orders were processed through Open Payment Providers — this is determined at the order level, based on which provider actually processed each transaction, not which payment options are displayed at checkout.
  • To reduce or eliminate this fee going forward: Route more of your orders through Embedded Payment Providers. If you use a mix of providers, only the GMV processed through Open Payment Providers is subject to the fee — so shifting more volume to Embedded providers reduces what you're charged. Changes apply to future orders only and won't affect charges already billed.

No. These are two separate systems, and it's important not to conflate them.

  • Your plan tier is based on your total GMV over time.
  • The Open Payment Provider Fee is based on how individual orders are processed.

Your plan tier does not change how individual transactions are categorized for fee purposes, but it does affect the rate applied. Upgrading to a higher plan reduces your fee rate; moving to a contracted Performance plan eliminates it. A provider change does not affect your plan tier. When you see both topics in the same communication, they are independent mechanics — not one system.

BigCommerce uses Inclusive GMV — your gross order value after a 10% reduction — to evaluate plan thresholds, overage fees, and fee calculations. We're updating this reduction factor from 3% to 10% as part of this change.

As a result, the Inclusive GMV BigCommerce calculates will likely differ from what you track in your own records or see in your payment provider reports. This is expected — not an error. If you've been monitoring your GMV against plan thresholds, check your dashboard after the change takes effect, especially if you're near a threshold.

  • Monthly plans: Auto-upgrade at the start of your next service period, with advance notice before anything changes.
  • Annual plans: Moved at the start of your next annual service period.

You'll always receive notification before any automatic change takes effect.

The previous Pro plan charged a fixed fee for each $200K block of GMV above the threshold — creating unpredictable step-up charges. The new Scale plan replaces that with a continuous overage rate: 0.9% on Inclusive GMV above $33,333/month. No tier jumps. No block charges. For merchants with seasonal GMV variability, this model scales more predictably.

Phone support

Phone support is included on Growth, Scale, and Performance plans. Core plan customers will need to add it separately.

Chat and email support remain available on all plans.

A phone support add-on for Core customers is coming. Pricing and timing will be shared separately. In the meantime, if phone support is important to your business, Growth includes it starting at $105/month (or $79/month billed annually).

Managing your plan

Starting June 1, you can manage your plan directly from your account by going to Account → Upgrade Plan to see your current plan and available options.

  • Upgrades: Immediately.
  • Downgrades: At the start of your next service period.

Yes, when making a plan change from your account.

Support entitlements are applied at the account level across all stores. Plan-level benefits and fees are evaluated per store.
