For the last two years I’ve had the pleasure of tackling the BigCommerce Holiday Gift Guide. It’s been my chance to peruse the plethora of brands selling on BigCommerce and make my own imaginary wish list.
Have I enjoyed the sense of childlike glee I get going through digital catalogs, pretending that I can have anything I want for Christmas? Heck yeah I have.
But in this, my third year of gift-guiding, I’ve realized that my tastes haven’t changed too much. As I started searching through our list of brands this year, I found myself going back to my old favorites.
So instead of boring you with another list of “Reed’s Top Things He Wants from BigCommerce Brands” list, I thought I’d make a list for my colleagues, instead.
Here is the list of gifts that the BigCommerce team has to have this holiday season.
Elizabeth Azide, Director of Marketing, EMEA
Did you know that in England they call gift baskets “hampers”? Neither did I! Will I only be calling them hampers from now on now that I know this? Yes, yes I will. But I digress. This British Afternoon Tea Hamper from Harvey Nichols has everything you need for the perfect afternoon tea time, plus a little bubbly chaser.
Lee Bond, Senior Creative Manager, Video
I think it’s pretty safe to say that anyone who knows Lee could 100% see him on the prow of a small fishing boat, corncob pipe firmly in hand, tossing out a net while making a terrible joke about it — probably something about ‘net’ neutrality or ‘net’ worth. When he chose the Fisherman’s Pack from Boston Sword & Tuna, I knew this gift was a perfect fit.
Libby Jackson, Educational Services Specialist
The Festive Sampler Set from Priesters is a mouthwatering assortment of almost any type of pecan you can dream of. Libby chose this eye candy not only because of how good it looks, but because you can also order it in a bulk six-pack. You either get six gifts to give to family and friends, or one gift and five for yourself to munch on. It’s up to you (but I know which one I’m going with).
Janet Houck, Lead Technical Writer
Not only does The Legends of Cheese Collection from Di Bruno Bros have the coolest name of any product on this list, you can’t argue with Janet’s logic for wanting this extensive collection.
“I love cheese tasting events and hosting parties for friends and family, but I get flustered when it comes to selecting cheeses and pairings, as well as working with what's available locally,” she explained. “This collection makes it easy to select and try interesting cheeses and high-quality products to pair with them. Plus, Di Bruno Bros ships them in cool-safe bags so they arrive still nice and firm.”
Silvia Krawczyk, Senior Marketing Project Manager
When I originally started asking people for gifts they’d like to receive from BigCommerce brands, Sil told me she wanted a BMW. While the BMW car website isn’t on BigCommerce, the BMW UK merch store is. So instead of a car, here’s the next best thing: The BMW City Commuter Scooter.
Ale Elias, Senior Marketing Project Manager
It wouldn’t be a gift guide in 2024 without something pickleball related, and our resident pickleball pro, Ale, didn’t disappoint. These Selkirk Halo Pro Max Paddles from Pickleball Central will have you serving spears and swimming in brine in no time (I have no idea how pickleball works).
Carmen Marxuach, Copywriter
There must be something in the brand team’s water, because not one, not two, but three people on our team picked sofa sets. Carmen, ever the individualist, went outside the box and picked an outdoor sofa set from Chair King. Perfect for loungin’, chillin’, and laxin’.
Shelley Kilpatrick, Senior Manager, Content Marketing
If it’s spooky, Shelley’s got to have it, and this Monster Mask Cakelet pan from Nordic Ware is right up her alley. She actually laughed out of excitement when she sent it over to me during a meeting. “It’s got everyone on there, even the creature from the black lagoon! I have to have this.” So John, you’ve got one less gift to worry about this year.
Maggie Miller, Demand Generation Manager
Simple, artsy, and elegant, Maggie hardly hesitated picking out this Four Cup Teapot from Mud Australia. This is less a teapot and more a functional piece of art, handmade in Sydney, Australia. You also have the option to add on tea cups, tea plates, and even mugs.
Dana Marruffo, Senior Global Public Relations and Communications Manager
Dana has always wanted to explore making her own pasta, and with this Electric Pasta Fresca Machine from King Arthur Baking, the pasta-bilities are endless. “It’s even made in Italy,” she said, “and the fact that it comes with its own pasta mixes makes it so accessible. It would be so much fun to use with friends and family.”
Annie Laukaitis, Content Marketing Writer
Our home and garden expert, Annie, has probably been eyeing this one since she first started working on the campaign. If she doesn’t end up getting this for the holidays, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind it as a wedding gift.
Brad Hem, Director of Public Relations and Corporate Communications
Brad’s a pretty stand-up guy, so it seems only natural that he’d go with this Standing Desk from UPLIFT. But this isn’t as much of a wishlist item as it is a recommendation. “I bought this for myself for Christmas two years ago and have never looked back,” he said. “I can’t recommend the Uplift Standing Desk enough.”
Dane Grashuis, Senior Demand Generation Manager
There were too many submissions from Saddleback Leather Company to count. They’re also on the top of my holiday wishlist this year, so I thought I’d pick something from Saddleback’s newest lineup: the canvas series.
Dane loves this Canvas Messenger Bag, made from the highest quality waxed canvas, and of course it comes with Saddleback’s 100-year warranty. Check out Saddleback’s Grandfather Collection for their newest line of leather goods, and Love 41 is a great option for those who prefer zippers over latches.
Margaret Schodrowski, Senior Manager, People Services
When I sent out a request to the BigCommerce team for gift guide suggestions, I had no idea I was going to learn so much about my colleagues. I’ve never met Margaret before, but I’m pretty sure we just became best friends. I’ll let her speak for herself on why she chose this Flora Ostrich Feather Pouch Clutch from Badgley Mischka.
“Look at it! It’s pink. It’s got feathers. It’s like carrying a sparkly flamingo! This would be the perfect gift for the holidays. I can definitely see this as a perfect bag for New Year’s Eve.”
I couldn’t have said it myself, Margaret.
Taylor Benac, T2 Technical Support Representative
You don’t have to be an opera lover to see the beauty in these handmade bracelets from Opera Bracelets. Each bead is selected to represent a specific emotion, song, act, or feeling in the piece. While Taylor admits they’re not an opera aficionado, they’re absolutely in love with this Carmen bracelet and what it represents.
Gabrielle Grant, Senior Demand Generation Marketing Manager
Dyson is synonymous with quality, and this Lisseur Corrale Straightener from Hairstore.fr is no exception. It’s got 30 minutes of battery life, an OLED screen for controls, and universal voltage, so it’s travel ready. Gab says that this hair straightener is a must-have.
Priscila Moreno, Senior Regional HR Generalist
Everyone loves the release of a great foot and calf massage, and this Real Relief Leg and Foot Massager will give you a professional-grade massage right in the comfort of your own home, without having to pay an arm and a leg to get it.
Kelsey Hartman, Author’s Partner
While she might not work at BigCommerce, she does work right behind me all day every day, so I’m going to count her in this list as an honorary BigCommerce team member. Her goal this year has been to knit as many socks as humanly possible. And, humble reader, I’m not lying to you when I say that we are literally drowning in socks over here. But she still needs more yarn, so what can you do.
Janine Dion, Social Media Manager
Janine is our puzzle and puppy guru, so it’s only natural that she’d choose this 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle from Springbok. If your giftee is like her, they’ll probably be finished with it in about 20 minutes, so you might want to get them a second puzzle, just for good measure.
Reed Hartman, Content Marketing Manager
What’s cooler than having a pinball machine? Having 96 pinball machines in one. Think the old Pinball games you used to play on your desktop at school while the teacher wasn’t looking, but IRL. The Skillshot FX from Skee-Ball comes with almost 100 different pinball games pre-programmed in, making it a perfect addition to your game room, living room, or office (if you need a little bit of fun to unwind throughout the day).
This year’s gift guide was quite a wild ride. I hope you had as much fun reading it as I did getting to make it. I also hope you got to learn a bit more about the awesome people we have working at BigCommerce, in addition to some of the amazing brands that use our platform to sell their products around the world.
And, you know, if anyone does feel like splurging and buying me a pinball machine, let me know and I’ll tell you where you can send it.
