Updates to Add/Edit Products and Product List Experiences

Our catalog development team has continued their diligent work iterating and improving upon our core BigCommerce product management control panel experiences.

As with any growing technology, old tools and interfaces eventually get replaced by new and improved versions that are better, faster, and easier to use.

Having to support, maintain, and fix old, outdated tools takes time that could be better spent developing new features and improving the overall experience

With that in mind, on April 1, 2024, we are moving forward with planned updates for two of our product catalog management tools: the v2 Add/Edit Products experience, and the Multi-Channel Product List.

Upgrading add/edit products v2 stores with simple catalogs to v3

On April 1, 2024, stores with “simple” product catalogs that are currently using the v2 Add/Edit Products experience will be automatically upgraded to the v3 experience.

For these stores, v3 offers all the same functionality as v2, but with a slightly different user interface. The v3 experience also includes features and tools that are not available or supported in v2, such as:

There is no store downtime associated with this update, and there is no action required by you. You can enable the experience at any time by using the opt-in banner at the top of the Add/Edit Products page in your control panel. 

If you have not opted in by April 1, 2024, your experience will be automatically updated.

What is a “simple” product catalog?

A simple catalog means none of your products have options, rules, variants, or configurable fields.

Which version am I using?

If your BigCommerce store was created after July 2019, it should already have the v3 experience by default. A quick way to tell the difference is that v2 has navigation at the top of the page, while v3 has navigation on the left side.

Upgrading stores with the multi-channel product list to the latest version

On April 1, 2024, stores currently using the Multi-Channel Product List will be automatically upgraded to the latest version of the Product List. This version replaces the Multi-Channel Product List.

There is no store downtime associated with this update, and there is no action required by you. You can enable the new Product List experience at any time by using the opt-in banner at the top of the Products page in your control panel. 

If you have not opted in by April 1, 2024, your Product List experience will be automatically updated.
