More and more shoppers today are asking an AI agent in their browser to help them find and buy things. Commerce launched a new partnership with Cloudflare on Oct. 21, 2026 specifically to enable those agents to find products and manage a cart on eligible BigCommerce storefronts. The shopper stays in charge of what they buy, and merchants can turn the feature off at any time.

This collaboration connects Cloudflare’s WebMCP technology with BigCommerce’s established B2C and B2B Storefront MCPs (Model Context Protocol). These server-side MCPs provide the commerce tools agents use to interact with a store. WebMCP makes those tools discoverable and accessible to compatible agents operating in the browser.

For merchants, it's a way to help shoppers who use AI agents find and buy from your store.

How it works for shoppers

Imagine a shopper planning a trip. She asks her browser agent: "Find a lightweight rain jacket under $150 in size medium and add it to my cart." The agent uses the store's tools to search the catalog and add the jacket. The shopper reviews the cart and decides whether to check out.

The shopper is still buying from your store, on your site. The agent helps them find and choose.

What the Storefront MCPs provide

WebMCP builds on the commerce tools already available through the BigCommerce MCP Toolkit.

The B2C Storefront MCP gives agents tools to find products and manage a cart. It supports guest shopping. With Storefront Session Sync, signed-in shoppers can keep their existing cart and personalized pricing.

The B2B Storefront MCP adds tools for business buying. Signed-in buyers can use shopping lists and quotes, based on their permissions.

Both run on BigCommerce's servers, which handle the commerce operations behind each request. WebMCP lets compatible browser agents find and call those tools. The same setup works for a guest browsing a catalog and for a business buyer working within their account permissions.

What agents can do on your store

Cloudflare provides the connection in the browser. BigCommerce's Storefront MCPs provide the shopping tools behind it. What an agent can do depends on the tools the integration supports, how your store is set up, and the shopper's sign-in and permissions.

Merchants stay in control. Eligible stores have WebMCP turned on by default and can opt out at any time in the MCP settings menu in the BigCommerce Control Panel.

Part of a broader approach to agentic commerce

Shoppers find products through search, AI conversations, and brand websites. Commerce is helping merchants get ready for all three by improving product information, connecting to new channels, and making storefront tools available to agents.

This work with Cloudflare covers one key moment: a shopper’s browser-based AI agent arriving at your BigCommerce storefront. The agent can use the store’s Storefront MCP tools to find products and manage a cart. That helps merchants serve shoppers who use agents today, and gives them a path to continue supporting customers as shopping habits change.

Frequently asked questions

What is WebMCP?

WebMCP lets a website offer specific tools to AI agents in a compatible browser. Cloudflare's version connects those agents to the tools from an existing server-side MCP, like BigCommerce's Storefront MCPs.

Which BigCommerce storefronts does this support?

To start, it's available for eligible BigCommerce storefronts built on Stencil. We'll keep adding supported storefronts.

How does WebMCP work with the B2C and B2B Storefront MCPs?

The Storefront MCPs provide the shopping tools. WebMCP makes the supported tools available to compatible agents in the browser. What an agent can do depends on your store's setup, the tools the integration supports, and the shopper's permissions.

How can merchants get started?

There's nothing to set up. Eligible stores have WebMCP turned on by default, and you can opt out at any time in the new MCP settings menu in the BigCommerce Control Panel.
